Frequently Asked Questions
How much ionized water should I drink daily?
You generally want to aim for 1 ounce for every 2 pounds of body weight per day. So, if you weigh 160 pounds, that would be 80 ounces of water per day. Athletes and other very active people may want more. The absolute minimum for anyone is 64 ounces per day.
What pH water should I be drinking?
Ideally, you want to consume 9.5 pH water throughout your day. This might be too much of a shock to your system if you start there. Remember, the pH scale is logarithmic, so each full point step up is 1000 fold higher in alkalinity. We offer multiple pH settings so that you can get to 9.5 gradually. Begin with 8.5 pH water for a week or 2, then once your body is used to that move to 9.0 pH for another week or two, then move to 9.5 pH water.
When will I notice benefits?
This, of course, varies, but you can expect to feel more energy within the first few days. The amount that you consume and your general state of health to begin with will affect the speed and degree with which you notice benefits.
How does ionized alkaline water benefit my health?
The health benefits come from 3 things: First is the very large amounts of antioxidants contained in the water. They combat oxidation and neutralize free radicals throughout the body, lessening signs of aging and oxidative stress and disease. Second is the heightened hydration that comes from micro-clustering of the water molecules, leading to better cellular, organ, and protein function in the body. Third are the alkaline minerals in the higher pH water, which neutralize harmful acids and nourish the body.
How does a water ionizer work?
Water ionizing machines use ordinary tap water and begin by filtering out harmful contaminants while leaving important alkaline minerals that the body needs. They then run the filtered water through electrolysis, naturally separating acidic and alkaline water, which can both be used for differing purposes.
What is ORP?
The amount of antioxidants present in a liquid is measured by ORP, or “Oxidative Reduction Potential”. This is a measure of how effectively a liquid can reduce (or neutralize) harmful oxidative reactions. Oxidation is what leads to disease and aging. Anti-oxidants are the way to reverse those things. The more beneficial a substance is, the higher its negative ORP will be.
What is molecular hydrogen?
As you probably know, water’s chemical structure is H2O: that is 2 hydrogen molecules and 1 oxygen molecule. The electrolysis process splits up the hydrogen from the oxygen, leaving the water full of free-floating hydrogen molecules (molecular hydrogen) which act as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals in the body. This is how ionized alkaline water fights disease and aging.
When should I not drink alkaline water?
We do not recommend drinking alkaline water with prescription medications because it can facilitate the breakdown of the medication too quickly. Use the pH 7.5 PURE water at these times.
What is the purpose of pH 11 water?
pH 11 water is so alkaline that it will break down anything oil or wax-based. This includes herbicides and pesticides on produce, so it is great for cleaning fruits and vegetables that you bring home from the store. It will also tenderize meat, clean laundry, break down greasy messes in the kitchen or garage, and polish silver; just to name a few uses.
What is the purpose of acidic water?
Acidic water is antimicrobial and will kill viruses, bacteria, and funguses. So, it is great to use in skin and scalp care, for disinfecting and cleaning around the house, for watering plants, and for preparing foods. pH 6.0 water is soothing and conditioning to the skin and hair.
Do I need a plumber to install my machine?
Not usually. It is not a complicated process and our machines come with a user manual describing installation in detail. Because it hooks directly up to your kitchen or office sink, very few tools or skills are needed. An Onyx machine may require a hole drilled through the countertop if one is not already available (such as a hole for a soap dispenser).
Why is ionized alkaline water better than bottled water?
Bottled water has usually been stripped of all minerals, including the beneficial alkaline minerals that our bodies need and are thus generally acidic. Even the brands labeled as alkaline not only achieved the alkaline state by artificially adding chemicals, but also do not maintain their pH level after sitting in the bottles for an extended period of time. In addition, the components of the plastic always leach into the water to some degree. Finally, no bottled water will have a negative ORP or any antioxidant properties.
Why is ionization better than reverse osmosis?
Water derived from reverse osmosis is stripped of all minerals and is acidic. It also is not micro-clustered so does not hydrate any better than tap water. Finally, it contains no antioxidants so provides no particular health benefits.
Can I give alkaline water to children or pets?
Yes! Children and pets stand to benefit just like adults. Both generally do well with the lower alkaline ranges.
How often do I have to replace the filters?
The machines have 2 filters. One is good for 4000 liters and the other for 8000 liters. The frequency with which they need to be changed, of course, depends on the amount of usage, but customers generally change filters once to twice a year.
